Salvatore GIARDINA 1877-1964

Salvatore Pasquale Phillip GIARDINA is my g-grandfather.

He was born 5 December 1877 in Cefalu, Palermo, Sicily, Italy, the son of Rosario & Concettina GIARDINA.

His Italian birth certificate has been located and translated.

According to his Naturalisation Certificate he arrived in Sydney on 10 January 1897, aged 20, however the ship he arrived on is omitted.

When he applied for his Naturalisation he stated that he lived at 30 Duke Street, Darlinghurst in Sydney.  His occupation at the time was seaman.

Later occupations included fisherman and fruiterer.  By 1913 when his wife, Laura Grace McCAY died he was living at 44 Duke Street.  At that stage seven of their eight children were still alive.

Salvatore died aged 86 in May 1964 in Drummoyne, New South Wales.

Salvatore’s parents’ Italian marriage certificate has been located recently and translated.
